We are sure that many of you intend to bring us gifts, as is customary at most weddings, and we certainly appreciate it.
However, we are already blessed with an abundance of possessions, and so don't feel obliged to buy a gift. We are happy to
receive the gift of your presence and all the expense and hassle it takes to travel here to celebrate with us. We would love
it if you made us a gift: painted a picture, made a mix CD, bakes us cookies etc.
But if you really want to buy us something here are some ideas:
We would love gift certificates from:
Bookshop Santa Cruz
For our reading pleasure!
Streetlight Records
For our listening pleasure!
The Garden CompanyWe have finally gotten a plot in the community garden near our home. You can help us create the perfect garden by getting
us a gift certificate to our favorite garden shop, Unfortunately, I don't think you can get a gift certificate on-line but
this is a great place to visit while you are in town!
Kiva Retreat House It is always a treat to have a massage at Kiva!
We are registered at:
REI (Recreational Equiptment Inc.)
We need some new camping gear, and we REALLY need new luggage, and so we are registered at REI !
Our registry number is GR958257

For the two of us, shopping involves a lot of thought and moral reasoning. In his essay Civil Disobedience, Henry
David Thoreau criticized those who claimed to oppose slavery, yet who through their buying habits continued to support it.
Similarly, we aspire not to pay for the destruction of local economies in the Third World to make way for sweatshops and export-crop
plantations. Likewise, we prefer not to support farming practices which are destructive to the topsoil and to our waterways,
as well as to the health of farmworkers and their children. In other words, we're asking you to buy us "organic"
and "fair trade" products not out of concern for the chemicals in our bedsheets, but out of concern for other peoples
and ecosystems. Thanks for respecting our feelings.
Also:
Cash gifts are greatly appreciated and will be put towards bigger purchases like a comfortable bed and a cd player for our
living room.
